Boston Bruins Alums and Local Businesses Step Up to the Plate with The Cunniff Group Cares 1st Annual Charity Softball Game

Newton , MA – The Cunniff Group Cares, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching local communities through supporting youth programs held its 1 st Annual Charity Softball Game at Forte Field on July 21, 2007 . Participants were joined by special guest players Gary Doak and Bobby Miller from the Boston Bruins Alumni team.

Bruins alum Gary Doak talked about how glad he is to participate in events like these. “We enjoy doing it. It gets us back in the community. And this event is in a nice area, with a nice bunch of people, and is for a good cause. What could be better than that?”

The game commenced with 13 year-old Emily Paley of Newton singing the National Anthem. Local franchise, Realty Executives Prestige Properties sponsored the two teams, which consisted of local residents, business associates, colleagues and friends. After nine innings, a home run derby was held and both the derby winner and the winning team were awarded trophies. Following the awards ceremony, raffle tickets were drawn and participants won items such as digitals cameras and Red Sox tickets, which were generously donated by local businesses. To conclude the event, players, fans and volunteers enjoyed a cookout sponsored by Whole Foods.

The response from the community for this event was extremely positive and the event was a great success. Total proceeds for the day exceeded $5,000. “Deep down, everybody has a good heart,” said Shawn Cunniff , Founder of The Cunniff Group Cares. “Given the opportunity, people are happy to come out and contribute.”
